IFMR GSB’s full-time MBA programme provides quality management education with a strong foundation in Finance. This intensive 2-year programme is now into its 19th year, and has clearly met the expectations of its various stake-holders. IFMR GSB offers 22 core and approximately 55 elective courses during the two-year programme, spanning 8 disciplines. IFMR GSB’s new state-of-the-art campus is at the heart of the fast-growing Sri City; a 5,000 acre Special Economic Zone (SEZ) situated 70 km north of Chennai. Admissions Criteria

  • Graduates from a full time degree course, but NOT Part time/ correspondence/ distance mode/ online mode in any discipline with consistent academic record; Candidates pursuing final year degree can also apply.
  • Applicants born on / after 1st January 1993 and on / before 31st December 2001.
  • Work experience is NOT mandatory, but candidates with work experience of less than or equal to 36 months as of 1st December 2019 can apply.
  • Applicants are required to take / have taken any of the following standardized entrance exams – CAT 2019 / XAT 2020 / CMAT 2020 / GMAT & GRE (taken on / after 1st January 2017).
  • The cut off and weightages are not the same for all the entrance exams. Hence, the candidate's performance will be evaluated based on the scores provided against the respective cut off and only the best performance will be considered.
  • While CAT/XAT/CMAT percentiles or GRE/GMAT scores are an important component of the admission process, these are not the sole criteria for admission.
  • The admission committee will consider the applicant’s past academic performance, and performance in Personal Interview.
  • The admissions committee will be shortlisting applicants for the selection process, taking into consideration, the applicant’s past academic performance, entrance test scores, and a passion for excellence demonstrated even in non-academic endeavor such as, but not limited to, sports (represented country, state or district/ University/ College/ School), Debate, Drama, Moot Court, NCC (but not NSS) volunteering, activism etc.(of a corresponding level);
  • Those with track record in these areas would get a relaxation with regard to cut off scores, provided they are otherwise eligible, and capable;
  • However, there is no exemption from the requirement of a valid score in, at least one of CAT/XAT/CMAT/ GRE/GMAT regardless of any achievements.

Course Structure

The Institute adopts the trimester pattern.

The primary objective of the IFMR MBA program is to facilitate students to become successful managers. To achieve this objective we lay a strong foundation in the management by offering a set of core courses in the areas of Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Information Systems & Operations and Human Resources Management.

First year Core Courses:

The first year MBA programme starts with elaborate, hands-on induction workshops covering subjects like Math for Managers, Excel Skills for Managers, and Soft Skills – Proactiveness and Teamwork. Summer Project:

The 2-month summer internship at the end of first year is an integral part of management education at IFMR. The project is done under the supervision of both faculty guide and industry managers. It gives the students hands on practical exposure and the valuable experience of working on a project. Building from this, the program offers a wide range of relevant and contemporary electives for the student to specialize in the second year. The grade obtained in the summer project is counted for overall CGPA.

Curriculum & Specialisations

Specializations

In the first year, the students get a good grounding across all management disciplines. They then undergo a rigorous two-month summer internship in an organisation. In the second year, the specialisation streams available are Data Science (i.e. Business Analytics), Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Marketing, OB & HR, Operations, Quantitative Finance and Strategic Management. These are offered jointly with the support of the industry professionals in curriculum design and delivery.

The Finance, IT and Operations streams prepare students to work as Analysts, Consultants, and Managers for IT, Banking and Financial Services.

Human Resources and Marketing students find attractive opportunities in the corporate and banking sectors.

The Quantitative Finance specialization prepares students for a career in investment banking, securities trading, quantitative modeling, risk management, financial consulting, and applied research.

Scholarships - Full-time MBA Programme

  1. Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Offered by IFMR GSB, Krea University:
    1. Objective:
    2. The School extends scholarships to students in need of financial assistance. The objective of the scholarship policy is to ensure that a meritorious student is not deprived of education for financial reasons. This process is intended for those students who have a pressing need for financial assistance.

    3. Eligibility:
      1. Minimum CGPA of 3.00 at the end of first year (Term-1, 2 and 3 courses)
      2. Annual family income less than INR 11 Lakhs
    4. Application Process:
    5. PGP Office sends a notification in Term-3 inviting applications to apply for IFMR GSB’s Merit-cum-Means-scholarship. Interested and eligible students will be required to submit the filled in application form along with all supporting documents within 15 days from the announcement of first year CGPA by the PGP Office.

    6. Scholarship Committee:
    7. The PGP Committee will seek all relevant data to assess the genuine financial problems of applicants. The Committee reserves the right to verify the information provided by the student. If it is found that a student has given incomplete or false / misleading information about family income, assets etc., the student concerned will face disciplinary action that may lead to expulsion.

    8. Selection Process:
    9. Scholarship is given only to those students who are assessed to have the need for it. The Committee makes this decision based on the information provided by the student and a personal interview with him/her, if required.

      Top 10% of the students in a batch who meet the above eligibility criteria may be considered for the award of scholarship. The scholarship amount shall be up to INR 2.50 lakhs per student.

  2. T. Thomas Scholarship for Business Leaders:
  3. IFMR GSB has been selected by Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) as one of the five Business Schools in India for the award of T. Thomas Scholarship for Business Leaders to the second year student of the outgoing batch. The scholarship amount shall be INR 1 Lakh.

    The PGP Office shares the list of toppers at the end of first year with HUL for deciding the winner.

  4. Merit Scholarships:
  5. Based on the CGPA at the end of the second year, merit scholarships are awarded, the details of which are given below:

    First Rank: INR 2 Lakhs

    Next three ranks: INR 1 Lakh each to three students

    If more than one student has same CGPA, the scholarship amount will be shared among those students equally.

    The Scholarship cheques are given to the eligible students in the PGP Office after the Convocation.

    Student who has been found guilty of adopting any unfair / unethical means or violation of discipline will not be eligible for any form of scholarship, medal or award.

    IFMR GSB reserves the right to revisit and modify these incentives as deemed fit by competent authorities.

Academic Honours – Full-time MBA Programme

IFMR GSB is committed to encourage students with excellence in academics as well as in extra-curricular activities. The following certificates and medals are awarded to the deserving students.

Merit Certificate:

Students who are ranked first on the basis of academic performance for each Term (TGPA) will be given a Certificate of Merit on the announcement of grades.

Dean’s Merit List:

The top 5% students in a batch, on the basis of academic performance (CGPA) at the end of second year, will be included in the Dean’s Merit List. Certificate of merit will be awarded at the time of Convocation.

C. M. Kothari Medal:

A student who is ranked first on the basis of academic performance [CGPA] at the end of the two-year programme will be awarded this medal

A. Sivasailam Medal:

A student who is ranked second on the basis of academic performance [CGPA] at the end of the two-year programme will be awarded this medal

A. M. M. Arunachalam Medal:

A student who is ranked third on the basis of academic performance [CGPA] at the end of the two-year programme will be awarded this medal

H. T. Parekh Medal:

This medal is given to a student for best all-round performance in academics as well as extra-curricular activities. A student has to secure a minimum CGPA of 3.50 and above at the end of second year to be in the consideration list. During the course of study, students are expected to submit their achievements related to extra-curricular activity along with documentary evidence to the PGP Office on a regular basis. This information will be used in determining the winner of this medal

The PGP Office prepares the list of eligible students based on the CGPA and includes achievements in extra-curricular activities as per the information received from students. The PGP Committee reviews the performance of listed students to decide the winner of this medal
